Jack Cope clinches second Gloucestershire title with dominant performance
Jack Cope delivered a commanding performance to reclaim the Gloucestershire County Championship title, finishing eight shots clear of the field at Woodhall Spa Golf Club.
Just four weeks after securing the prestigious English Amateur Championship, Cope displayed extraordinary form, reminiscent of his earlier victory at Cotswold Hills in 2017. He set the tone early, shooting an impressive opening round of 65, giving him a four-shot lead he maintained throughout the competition.
Representing The Players Golf Club near Chipping Sodbury, Jack’s consistency was remarkable. He recorded successive rounds of 66 in rounds two and three, extending his advantage to an unassailable eight shots. His final round of 70 ensured a convincing overall victory, finishing comfortably ahead of Jake Phillips from Cotswold Hills.
“I’m delighted to have won again,” said Cope. “Coming off the English Amateur victory just a few weeks ago, my confidence was high, and it showed in my game. It’s fantastic to reclaim a title I’ve previously won—especially in such a strong field.”
Cope’s dominant display underlines his impressive consistency and marks him as one of England’s most exciting golfing talents.
Other notable performances in the event included Jake Phillips (Cotswold Hills), who secured second place with strong final rounds, while defending champion Nick Day put in a commendable effort to remain in contention.
In other categories, the team event—the West of England Fourball—was won by Cotswold Hills Golf Club’s team of Jake Phillips, Charlie McLean, and Charlie Roper. The Peter Scott Trophy for the leading under-18 golfer after 36 holes was awarded to Toby Janes from The Kendleshire.
